Why Join Us?
Good men seek the light of Masonry for many different reasons. Some seek to build meaningful friendships and community connections; some wish to contribute and volunteer in our charitable causes; some simply wish to engage in intellectual pursuits; however, all wish to better themselves as men in their lives and communities. If you ask a Mason, they'll gladly explain what brought them into our fraternity. Most of their common reasonings include: forming lifelong friendships, focusing on personal development, helping others, and being part of a historic organization you can take pride in. Additionally, Masons enjoy meeting people from different backgrounds who share their values, engaging with the community, learning time-tested leadership skills, enjoying regular social activities, and connecting with a global network. If these things interest you, we encourage you to stop in for dinner before our meetings and learn more!
Our
Requirements
Many men will live their entire lives not knowing that in order to seek admission into the worlds oldest, largest, most purposeful, and greatest fraternity, they must first ask. One is never invited into our brotherhood, rather they must come in of their own free will and accord, without persuasion. They must ask a Mason for a petition. The prescribed requirements for membership in the State of Tennessee are: being a man of at least 18 years of age, having a belief in a Supreme Being and in the immortality of the soul, being capable of reading and writing, being of good moral character, and being recommended by two Master Mason members of the Lodge in which you wish to apply, plus two other references who may or not be Masons. A multi-state background check is required for admission.
The
Process
One of the universal requirements for admission into our fraternity is to ask a Mason. If you don't know a Mason, you can simply attend dinner before our monthly stated meeting, as scheduled in the calendar below. Attending dinner is a great way to meet Masons and make a lasting impression on those that vote on your petition. Be sure to attend dinner at multiple lodges in the area as every lodge is unique and has its own culture. You may find that one lodge meets your expectations more than others. Once you're ready, ask any Mason for a Petition for the Three Degrees. Once completed, this will start the background investigation process. Upon the investigative committees completion of the investigation, our lodge will vote on your membership. Admittance into any lodge requires a unanimous 'Yea' vote by all Master Masons.
